Soil Conservation Devision

Objectives:

  1. Composing research programs and setting up research priorities, planning the needs for experts, instrumentation, equipment, and educational program for soil conservation research purposes in the main ecological and geological regions,
  2. Cooperation in technology transfer, as well as the exchange of information and expertise with the regionaroblems,
  3. Defining the research objectives and related activities followed by the supervising research projects carried out within the research stations throughout the country,
  4. Collecting soil data and information from the watersheds to prepare a soil database to support the related research activities,
  5. Defining and conducting applied and basic national research project related to soil conservation,
  6. Calibration, validation, and enhancement of the mathematical and physical models related to soil conservation research projects,
  7. Defining the research objectives and related activities followed by the supervising research projects carried out within the research stations throughout the country,
  8. Collecting soil data and information from the watersheds to prepare a soil database to support the related research activities,
  9. Defining and conducting applied and basic national research project related to soil conservation,
  10. Calibration, validation, and enhancement of the mathematical and physical models related to soil conservation research projects,
  11. Defining and conducting national soil reclamation/pollution research projects.

Functions:

  1. Investigation of the extent of sheet, rill, gully and tunnel erosion and the related processes,
  2. Estimation and mapping of sediment yield throughout the country in GIS environment,
  3. Investigation and proposing socially acceptable and economically feasible soil conservation methods for a sustainable ecological balance of the soil and water resources,
  4. Collection of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) data suitable for use in the soil conservation research projects,
  5. Investigation and evaluation of soil contamination and the economically feasible control methods,
  6. Investigation of landslide zonation procedures and the related factors involved in landslides throughout the country,
  7. Monitoring selected active landslides and unstable land slopes for drafting suitable stabilizing methods and procedures throughout the country,
  8. Investigation of the Quaternary deposits to propose suitable land use conservation method throughout the country.
